what does this journey look like?
DAY 1 – Arrival in Nairobi & Transfer to the Maasai Mara
Your adventure begins as you land in Nairobi, Kenya’s vibrant capital. After a warm welcome, you’ll take a short flight (or a longer drive, if you wish) to the Masai Mara, where your first game drive starts the moment you leave the airstrip.
Check in to Mara Basecamp, a community-owned lodge on the banks of the Talek River, bordering the Masai Mara National Reserve. This evening, enjoy a traditional dinner and learn about the lodge’s conservation and community projects, including Maasai ranger training and women’s empowerment initiatives.
Stay at Mara Basecamp (2 nights)
DAY 2 – Safari in the Maasai Mara
Today, you’ll explore the legendary Maasai Mara, a 1,510 km² wilderness teeming with wildlife. Your guide will take you on morning and afternoon game drives, with a picnic lunch in the bush. If you’re traveling during the migration (July-October), you may witness the dramatic river crossings of wildebeest and zebras – a spectacle filmed in countless nature documentaries. If you like fewer crowds and want to travel more nature positive, we advise to avoid this time of year.
In the evening, relax at camp and share stories around the fire under a starlit sky.
DAY 3 – Walking Safari to Dorobo Bush Camp
Today, you’ll trade the safari vehicle for your own two feet as you embark on a walking safari to Dorobo Bush Camp. Your Maasai guides will lead you through the bush, sharing their ancient tracking skills and deep knowledge of the land.
This is Africa at its most raw and authentic – no fences, no crowds, just you and the wilderness. Along the way, you might encounter giraffes, elephants, or even lions, all accustomed to the presence of the Maasai.
Arrive at Dorobo Bush Camp, a simple yet magical mobile camp deep in the bush. Enjoy a bush dinner by the campfire, followed by stories of the day’s adventures.
Stay at Dorobo Bush Camp (2 nights, all meals included)
Day 4 – Full-Day Immersion in the Bush
Spend the day exploring on foot and by vehicle, with your Maasai guides revealing the hidden secrets of the savanna. You’ll learn about medicinal plants, animal behavior, and the delicate balance of the ecosystem.
In the afternoon, enjoy a night drive to see the nocturnal wildlife – genets, civets, and perhaps a hunting lion or leopard. Return to camp for another evening of stories and stargazing.
Day 5 – Transfer to Wilderness Camp in Mara Naboisho
After breakfast, you’ll walk to your next camp, with your baggage transported separately. Today’s destination is the exclusive Wilderness Camp in the Mara Naboisho Conservancy, a private wildlife haven where animals roam freely without human disturbance.
This conservancy is one of the best places in Africa to see big cats, and your guides will take you on game drives to spot lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Enjoy a sundowner as the savanna turns golden, followed by dinner under the stars.
Stay at Basecamp Wilderness Camp (2 nights)
Day 6 – Game Drives & Night Safari in Naboisho
Today is all about wildlife immersion. You’ll head out on morning and afternoon game drives, with a bush breakfast or picnic lunch in between.
In the evening, embark on a night drive to witness the after-dark magic of the Mara – hunting predators, glowing eyes in the bush, and the sounds of the African night. Back at camp, gather around the fire to share your experiences with fellow travelers.
Day 7 – Farewell to the Mara
After a final morning game drive and breakfast, you’ll be transferred to the airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi. From there, you’ll connect to your international flight, taking with you memories of wild encounters, Maasai wisdom, and the untamed beauty of Kenya.
